For over 25 years, Pharmasave Wexford Heights pharmacy has been proudly serving the Wexford Heights community with great passion and gratitude. Owner and Pharmacist Minaaz Kara considers it a “great privilege to serve this friendly, warm and diverse community.”

Thanks to Nelson Strader

First opening its doors in 1940 in the adjacent plaza, the pharmacy was then owned and managed by pharmacist Nelson Strader, the past President of the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Minaaz worked alongside Nelson as a pharmacist, and considers Nelson one of his greatest mentors. “Nelson is a true pharmacist in every aspect of the term. He was a brilliant man and knew how to serve and how to lead,” says Minaaz.

In Memory of Riyaz Kara

The pharmacy was then moved to its current larger location in 2000 after Minaaz and his business partners father Gulamali Kara and brother Riyaz purchased the store from Nelson. Riyaz sadly passed away in 2004, being missed dearly by all, and hailed for his many community and business accomplishments in his short years. “My brother Riyaz is why this pharmacy is what it is to the community, and his impact on Wexford Heights is beyond measure,” says Minaaz, who continues the pharmacy in Riyaz’s memory and honor, along with his father. Minaaz also attributes the continued success of the store to his mentor and father Gulamali Kara, “a beacon and guide through all of the toughest times”.

Pharmasave Supports the Community

The store came under the Pharmasave brand in 2007. “Pharmasave understands and supports each store in meeting the unique needs of its community. We’re able to order special items and locate products other pharmacies wouldn’t normally be able to source. As a result, we can customize each customers experience, and be the store they need.” Minaaz mentions it’s not uncommon for him to serve 3 generations of the same family, most of whom he considers friends. In fact, most of the staff have worked here for many years, and often quote the customers as being one of the main reasons why they enjoy working here.

And Wexford Heights Pharmasave is just that. With it’s loyal following, it’s more than a pharmacy, and boasts a large Home Health Care department, as well as a Cosmetics section with many of today’s leading names in beauty. You can also find many products and services like general convenience including non-perishable and perishable food items like milk, bread, cheese , eggs and canned goods. The Home Décor section has wonderful gift and household items, and the many other isles are filled with daily essentials like baby products, personal hygiene products, home cleaning, toys, office supplies and much more.
